PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana 2024: Illuminating India's Rooftops with 1 Crore Solar Residences

In a monumental stride towards sustainability and energy independence, India embarks on a transformative journey with the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana 2024. This visionary initiative aims to brighten the nation's future by setting a target of installing solar panels on one crore residential rooftops across the country.

What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana?

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana is a central plan aimed at providing free electricity to one crore Indian families that install rooftop solar power units. The houses will get 300 units of free electricity each month. This ambitious programme focuses on utilising the nation's tremendous solar potential to empower homes with renewable energy solutions and make a substantial contribution for the people.

How does PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana work?

For systems up to 2 kW in capacity, the programme offers a subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost; for systems between 2 and 3 kW in capacity, it offers a subsidy of 40% of the additional system cost.  The maximum amount of the subsidy is 3 kW of capacity. This translates to a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system, and Rs 78,000 for a 3 kW system or more at the current benchmark prices.

Who can submit an application for the Scheme?

1. The candidate needs to be a citizen of India.

2. The home must have a roof that can accommodate solar panels.

3. The home needs to be connected to electricity.

4. The family cannot have received any other solar panel subsidies.

How does one go about applying for a subsidy?

  Step 1:

  • Sign up on the website
  • Choose your state and the company that distributes electricity.
  • Enter your email address, mobile number, and electricity consumer number.

  Step 2:

  • Use your consumer number and mobile number to log in.
  • Utilise the form to apply for rooftop solar power.

  Step 3:

  • Hire any of the registered vendors to install the plant when you have permission for its viability.

  Step 4:

  • After installation is finished, apply for a net metre and submit the plant specifications.

  Step 5:

  • Following the installation of the net metre and DISCOM inspection, the commissioning certificate will be generated via the portal.

  Step 6:

  • Following receipt of the commissioning report. Send in a voided cheque and the bank account information using the online portal. The subsidy will be deposited into your bank account.

Why to use Solar Rooftops?

Solar rooftops offer a plethora of benefits that align perfectly with India's sustainable development goals:

  • Clean Energy Generation: Solar energy is abundant, clean, and renewable. By tapping into the power of the sun, households can reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, thereby lowering carbon emissions and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.

  • Energy Independence: With solar panels installed on rooftops, households gain greater energy independence. They become less susceptible to fluctuations in energy prices and grid failures, thus enhancing energy security at the individual and community levels.

  • Cost Savings: While the initial investment in solar rooftop systems may seem substantial, they offer substantial long-term savings on electricity bills. As sunlight is free, households can significantly reduce or even eliminate their electricity expenses over time, making solar power an economically viable choice.

  • Job Creation and Economic Growth: The widespread adoption of solar rooftops creates a burgeoning market for solar equipment and installation services, thereby generating employment opportunities across the solar value chain. Additionally, it fosters innovation and technological advancement in the renewable energy sector, driving economic growth and prosperity.

  • Environmental Benefits: By transitioning to solar energy, households contribute to the reduction of air and water pollution associated with conventional energy sources. This not only improves public health but also safeguards the environment for future generations.

Strategic Plans for Successful illustration of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana outlines a comprehensive plan to achieve its ambitious target of installing solar panels on one crore residential rooftops:

  1. Awareness and Outreach: The success of the scheme centres upon widespread awareness and outreach efforts to educate households about the benefits of solar energy and the incentives available for rooftop solar installations.

  2. Financial Incentives: To make solar rooftops financially accessible to all segments of society, the government will offer attractive subsidies, rebates, and low-interest loans for the installation of solar panels.

  3. Streamlined Regulatory Framework: Simplifying regulatory procedures and streamlining the approval process for rooftop solar installations will expedite the deployment of solar systems. The government will work closely with local authorities to remove bureaucratic hurdles and facilitate seamless implementation at the grassroots level.

  4. Capacity Building and Skill Development: Building a skilled workforce equipped with the knowledge and expertise to design, install, and maintain solar rooftop systems is essential for the success of the initiative.

  5. Empowering Communities, Illuminating Lives

Beyond the tangible benefits of clean energy and cost savings, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana holds the promise of empowering communities and transforming lives. By embracing solar energy, households become active participants in India's transition towards a sustainable and resilient future. Moreover, the ripple effects of solar adoption extend far beyond individual homes, catalyzing positive change across sectors and driving inclusive growth at the grassroots level.

The Conclusion

As the sun rises on a new era of energy transformation, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana stands as a testament to India's unwavering commitment to harnessing the power of nature for the betterment of society. Together, let us embark on this journey towards a brighter, greener tomorrow—one rooftop at a time.
